I appreciate that we made this witness a sitting duck for the entire Department--to explain whether they have reviewed the virtual exclusion of general aviation from the airport of the Nation's Capital.

Private Sherrod certainly has the motivation and the lineage to be a great marine and serve his country.

His successful completion has promoted him from recruit to private. I join with his proud family and the constituents of the 30th Congressional District of Texas in commending his achievements.

All these activities that I mentioned are demanding and challenging for any young man or woman.

Again, I join the constituents of the 30th Congressional District of Texas in congratulating the wonderful achievements of Pvt. Malcolm Barnes Sherrod.

I am confident that Private Sherrod will take on the challenges at both survival and leadership school with tremendous focus and effort.

As a model to young women in our area, she is a member of the Advisory Board of Girls, Inc. and recently completed service on the YWCA Board.

She has been a vigorous advocate of many community and social causes.
