EPA's job is as hard as it is important.

Thank you Chairwoman Comstock and Chairman Loudermilk for holding this hearing on the recent OPM data breach.

Although addressing their information security systems is a top goal of the new OPM leadership, it is clear that action should have been taken years ago.

It is frustrating to learn that OPM knew that they had serious information security systems problems long before this breach.

This is not the government's money, it's the people's money.

I hope that we, in Congress, will stop obstructing EPA's efforts--they're only functioning to protect the American people's health--and instead listen to our scientists, to our religious leaders, and to the American people by supporting…

EPA's Clean Power Plan, like the rest of President Obama's Climate Action Plan, is the bold step forward our Nation needs to address the impacts of climate change.

The bottom line is that the costs and risks of inaction are too high for us to continue to drag our feet or put our heads in the sand.

The scientific evidence confirms that we need to act now to lessen these impacts.

I support the Clean Power Plan. It sets reasonable limits that take into account the characteristics of each state.

I particularly appreciate Ranking Member Grayson's good work in introducing and advancing a bill to finally authorize the Hubs this year.

Thank you, Madam Chairwoman for holding this hearing, and I want to join you in welcoming our distinguished panel of witnesses.

It is equally important to implement policies and support long term advanced research that would lead to revolutionary improvements to our transportation systems.

I only hope that the Science, Space, and Technology Committee will take the steps necessary to ensure that we have a strong voice in what the bill looks like.

Having a district that has five interstates crossing it... I'm keenly aware of how much we need research to make sure that when repairs are done, they can stay in place.

As we consider reauthorization of surface transportation programs, we must keep that in mind.

I hope we will also have the opportunity to move and look more thoroughly--and examine more thoroughly specific transportation R and D topics in this Congress.

Unfortunately, the State of Texas is not helping to protect my constituents nor anybody else's and has been intensely opposed to a lower ozone standard.

As most people know, I'm from Dallas, Texas, an area that is all too familiar with poor air quality.

It is puzzling to me that our Committee is going down such a path just as other nations and many in the business community are stepping up to address the challenge presented by climate change.

I can think of no mission of the federal government that is more important or noble than EPA's mission to protect human health and the environment.

Instead, it will serve as one more platform for industry to voice its opposition to regulations that will make the air we breathe cleaner, the water we drink safer, and that will help address the looming challenge of climate change.
