Today we meet to discuss the groundbreaking bioscience research supported by the Department of Energy's Biological and Environmental Research program.

Even as China looms large as a competitor, and many other nations have strong science and innovation capacity, U.S. universities continue to lead the world in cultivating the next generation of STEM talent.

This nation is in crisis on many fronts. Due to an unprecedented lack of leadership, nearly 200,000 Americans have died from the COVID19 pandemic.

I remain confident that the American universities have the essential ingredients to carry our Nation into a healthy, secure, and prosperous future.

I believe that our universities can do more to recruit and nurture all talent, no matter their gender, race, disability, or other background.

The Nation is in a crisis on many fronts.

The Federal government can and should do more to invest in research and technology to deal with the many facets of the causes and consequences of human trafficking.

Recovering from this pandemic is going to take time, resources, and leadership.

The Department of Energy's technology transfer activities are critical to getting the fruits of our public investments in clean energy research, development, and demonstration into the hands of the American people.

His area is not only subject to, you know, huge chemical pollution, it's also evidently a flooding area.

Congress has the power of the purse, and with that power comes particular requirements that you can institute in the legislative language.

I think it is a travesty that in the midst of this pandemic we have to claw out of the Federal agencies information about health disparities.

I think that is one of the places that you could begin to look to make other types of investments.
