Lamar Alexander
The Public Record
Lamar Alexander is a prominent American politician and attorney who served as a United States Senator from Tennessee from 2003 to 2021. A member of the Republican Party, he was previously the Governor of Tennessee from 1979 to 1987 and held the position of U.S. Secretary of Education under President George H.W. Bush from 1991 to 1993. Throughout his career, Alexander has focused on education reform, energy policy, and bipartisan cooperation in Congress.
The EEOC created a conflict with the committee, with the President, with three departments of the Obama administration and their regulations.
The commission is pursuing investigations that may not involve a complaint, while the backlog of complaints has grown to over 75,000.
The commission is losing lawsuits and receiving embarrassing rebukes from the courts, wasting taxpayer dollars.
Instead of following the law, the EEOC is focused on, 'developing the law,' and creating regulatory guidance without any notice or comment.
What's going on in the EEOC, in my view, is not consistent with the noble actions that I just described.
I believe he had placed too much emphasis on litigating high-profile lawsuits at a time when there were more than 70,000 complaints of workplace discrimination that had not been investigated.
It also says you do not have to pay dues or fees to the union in order to have a job.
I cannot think of anything more damaging to middle income Tennesseans than anything that would undermine the right to work law.
But the Board has already held that a fee cannot be charged, and the Supreme Court has held the same thing. Why would you change the law?
That gives States the right to pass a so-called right to work law, which 25 States, I believe, have done, right?

If the laws that Tennessee has, for example, that you do not have to join a union, you do not have to pay fees, and the Supreme Court and the NLRB have said the union has to serve everybody who works at the plant, then why do you ask the…
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is the Federal agency responsible for studying and addressing shortages in the supply of healthcare workers.
American college students have lots of choices, more than 6,000, and to make a smart choice, students need information.
A simplified version of the FAFSA form could reduce frustration and encourage more families to apply for financial aid.
I applaud Senators Lamar Alexander and Michael Bennet for working together on revising and simplifying the format of the FAFSA.
We are going to work on that. The Administration and Senator Murray and I are setting up a working group to identify the five or six steps that we can take to improve the electronic medical record system.
It is an interesting development and huge, one million individual cohorts. Has that been done before?
Will you commit to me that you will work to resolve this matter as expeditiously as possible, so we can move quickly to begin to reduce mercury contamination in Oak Ridge?
I think it would be better if you would allow those new laws, regulations, and agreements to continue for a while, because they're all trending in the right direction, rather than change the ozone standard, which would bring to a halt…
Well, my time is up, but you don't give equal credit to a new nuclear plant and a new wind and solar plant.
Can I ask you to move as expeditiously as possible to review those applications?
