I am pleased to begin the consideration of H.R. 4660, making appropriations for fiscal year 2015 for Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies. This bill has a far-reaching impact, from the safety of people in their homes and communities, to exploring the farthest reaches of space. The bill before the Committee today reflects a delicate balance of needs and requirements. We have drafted what I consider a responsible bill for FY 2015 spending levels for the departments and agencies under the subcommittee's jurisdiction.
