The Administration giving up on clean coal reminds me of the editors of New York Times, who opined in 1903 after a failed attempt at flight by the Wright Brothers, that it would be one million to ten million years before man could fly.

We will hear from some who say coal plants are closing because natural gas is cheaper. Not true.

Lack of readiness or preparation on your part does not constitute a reason that Congress gives up its responsibilities to have oversight.

Most of the concerns about the law currently can be reduced to one question: 'Is the administration ready?'

As a clinician and psychologist myself, it was hardly ever appropriate for me or my colleagues in the medical field to wait until problems were at a severe or critical level.

A wait-and-see approach to oversight of the Healthcare Reform Law does not seem appropriate.

Our responsibility in conducting oversight of Federal programs is to identify waste, fraud, and abuse.

The law has many problems and so much so that half of it was simply done away with for a year.

Is the Administration ready?

It is the law of the land.

Together your two agencies have spent, by my calculations, a little bit under $150 million of electricity consumers' money shutting down a license review.

DOE used that money for the opposite purpose, to shut down the Yucca Mountain program.

The purpose of that funding was to carry out the purposes of the Nuclear Waste Policy Act.

The fiscal year 2011 Continuing Resolution was the last time NRC and DOE received funding for the license review.

I think the delays have been there because the administration, even though they have had a few years to do this, simply is not ready to bring this forward upon the American people.

Nobody is perfect. We understand that. We understand that, and we want to help, but what we have seen and what we have heard so far doesn't give us a whole lot of faith.

We will continue to work with VA, with the Administrations, with the families, to make sure that preventable injuries and deaths don't occur.
