the Kanjorski-Ridge amendment embodies a revised version of this language adopted by the Banking Committee to utilize the fruits of this Nation's research as an engine for creating significant numbers of new jobs in private sector businesses. This is accomplished by enhancing the ability of United States small- and medium-sized businesses to obtain information and licenses on technologies and process developed through Federal R&D. By making it easier for small- and medium-sized businesses to commercialize these technologies, tens of thousands of new jobs will be created which offer good wages and real opportunities for advancement to working men and women across this country. In the final analysis, I believe that this is what economic development is all about.
