“I rise in strong opposition to the amendment to eliminate the Economic Development Administration offered by our friend, the gentleman from Colorado. Frankly I am astounded that the gentleman could offer this amendment again this year, particularly after the compelling discussion we have had on this floor and the number of hearings in all the subcommittees and the committees of the House that have jurisdiction over the Economic Development Administration. It is the only valley that spurred a name for one of our States. It is famous for the Yankee, Connecticut Yankee, Indian wars of the Revolution, and back in 1972 massive waters of the Susquehanna River flooded that magnificent valley 27,000 homes and 1,600 businesses were inundated and destroyed.”
