We continue to use taxpayer dollars to keep AIG from going under, an additional $30 billion was allocated last Monday.

The Public Record
The American public deserves to know, as do researchers in government and out of government, where did this money go?
Why not just separate right now by regulation, just take that risky arm out of it?
It is this lack of communication that has most angered the people who pay the bills, the American taxpayers.
I really am disappointed, however, that the Department of the Treasury didn't produce a witness for this hearing.
Is it fair to take money from all the other homeowners and taxpayers to help this latter group of homeowners? I don't think so.
I am encouraged that what I have heard everyone here say is that we need, number one, a national freight program and, number two, we need a dedicated source of funds to be able to pay for these projects.
The issue is, as my two colleagues here from the port said, number one, any solution we bring forward the money has to stay in the region where the money was generated.
We also have to apply it nationally. Otherwise, we run the risk of insuring that some ports are not competitive.
We will throw out a strong helping hand to the banks, to the automobiles, to industry, to others... but to the poor, struggling homeowner, we give no kind of help.
