Let me remind you of the last sentence of that Gettysburg Address: 'that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth.'
Freedom has responsibilities, not just rights. And if this is what we have to do to get to the point where this virus is sent packing, well, that`s up to all of us to get there.
This is a matter of great urgency, not just because of the economics, of course, but also because of the enormous human tragedies that are attached to this disease.
That would not achieve the goal that we all would have to agree is critical for our future.
