Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I want to begin by thanking all of today's witnesses, the U.S.

That is why I am co-leading H.R. 8844, along with my colleagues Congressman Dwight Evans, Congresswoman Marie Newman, and Congresswoman Young Kim.

I hope that we can continue our bipartisan work to pass this bill through the House this Congress.

The issue is of vital importance, as nearly 24 million children live in single parent--or nearly 30 percent of all single parents live in poverty.
