We need to encourage innovation and paradigm-shifting discoveries in all sectors of our economy but especially energy.

We must make sure that the United States remains a leader in this industry, and I look forward to working with Members from both parties to do that.

In my district, and in many around the country, the topic of today's hearing, which is energy and energy research, means cutting-edge science, but it also means jobs that support entire families.

The reason we have these cracks, Madam Chairwoman and Mr. Ranking Member, is because, over the years, we have not fully funded the reconstruction of these locks and dams.

When we pay for these things piecemeal, they become more expensive over time.

The veterans themselves have to remain our primary focus. They need to get where they are going in a timely and safe manner.

The good people of Pittsburgh are going to be just fine. We have throughout our history and I think our record of sports championships helps testify to the toughness that we have.

We're the United States. We should be leaders here, not followers.
