I rise this evening to speak about the bill we passed today, what is known as the child nutrition bill, but the actual title is the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. We passed it by unanimous consent, which means we have done something that happens all too rarely around here. We passed a major piece of legislation in a bipartisan way, we got consent from the whole Chamber, and we did not have to have a vote on it. That is a good development, to pass a big piece of legislation which will have a tremendously positive impact on our children, and passing it in that manner is encouraging. I am grateful, as so many of us are, to our chairman, Senator Lincoln, for her continued leadership to craft a child nutrition bill that protects and assists the most vulnerable of our society--pregnant women and children who are food insecure, especially in a time of economic difficulties for so many families and high unemployment in so many communities across the country.
