Mr. President, I rise just for a few moments to make a few comments regarding the pending legislation that deals with the currency policies that China has had in place which have proven to be adverse to American workers. I was saying on the floor yesterday, and I will say it again, that this is not a complicated issue. When China does not play by the rules, when they cheat on the international stage on their currency policies, Americans lose jobs. We have lost far too many of them for us to just sit back and do nothing or sit back and just discuss and urge and plead instead of taking action. But what I failed to do yesterday was put a couple of basic numbers on the table. I mentioned in some of my comments yesterday that we had a hearing in the Joint Economic Committee, which for those who are not as familiar with the workings of that committee, it is a House-Senate joint committee where we have Senators and House Members, obviously, from both parties meeting and participating in hearings on a whole range of topics, most of them dealing with the economy and jobs. Yesterday, we had the Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke, who testified broadly about a lot of issues. But I asked him about currency, and one of the things he said--I thought this was a pretty significant statement. I am just reading something Chairman Bernanke said in pertinent part.
