I rise today to discuss a very important provision in the new Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Company Accountability Act just introduced by the majority leader which would require public disclosure of hydraulic fracturing chemicals used in natural gas drilling. The bill itself will have a number of important benefits which I will highlight before getting into the issue I rose to speak about. This legislation will create at least 150,000 jobs and save millions of consumers up to $500 annually. Second, it will hold BP accountable. A lot of Americans are waiting for that accountability. Third, it will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and create up to 550,000 jobs. Next, it will protect the environment by providing full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund over the next 5 years. Finally, the bill will protect taxpayers from any future oilspills.
