Mr. President, I rise today to speak about the nomination we are considering in the next few hours, which is the nomination of Judge Thomas I. Vanaskie. I can't tell you how proud I am to talk about his nomination. I have known him for a long time. I think it goes without saying that--and I join a lot of people who have spoken about him already and know him--I strongly support his nomination and confirmation for a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Tom Vanaskie is a legal scholar, he is fair minded, and he has unquestioned integrity and ability. He is an experienced Federal judge since his appointment in 1994. On top of all that, he is a decent, compassionate man. The Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary of the American Bar Association has unanimously rated Judge Vanaskie well qualified to serve as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Judge Vanaskie's biography highlights both his scholarly and professional accomplishments and the highest esteem in which he is held by his colleagues in the legal profession. He graduated magna cum laude from Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA, where he was also an honorable mention all-American football player, a first-team academic all-American, and he was the college's outstanding male student athlete, and the recipient of the highest award given to a graduating student.…
