Dear Senator: This week, the Senate continues consideration of the Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution (FAIR) Act of 2005 (S. 852), sponsored by Senators Specter and Leahy. The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) strongly supports this legislation and urges all Senators to reject the technical budget point of order that has been raised against the bill. The asbestos trust fund that would be established by the passage of this bill will be entirely financed by contributions from defendant companies and insurers and will have no impact on the federal budget, thereby invalidating the point of order against the bill.…”
