On the recordJune 24, 2004
We have encouraged the Army to pure fleet its first-to-fight armored units with M1A2 SEP tanks primarily to ensure overwhelming lethality and survivability but also to reduce the logistics burden on our soldiers. However, it has come to my attention that the Army does not intend to pure fleet its armored forces with M1A2 SEP tanks. In fact, under the Army's current plan, the 3rd Infantry Division--which spearheaded Operation Iraqi Freedom--will continue to cope with M1A1 tanks that were produced 20 years ago. Is the Chairman aware of this fact?
