Well, this is by design. States have the ability under our own antitrust laws to enforce these regulations. We, as states, will see different harms than the national government will see.

In addition to holding bad actors accountable, we want to speak publicly about this work and these cases to hopefully deter people who might be considering taking advantage of our Medicaid system.

Currently, there are hundreds fewer people working on fraud investigations at the federal level now than there were when the Trump administration took over, and that’s why this work is so important right now at the state level.

This is incredibly bipartisan work that is being done by attorney general offices across the state and their fraud units at the state level.

At its core, combating Medicaid fraud is about fighting for working families, protecting vulnerable Oregonians and holding bad actors accountable when they take advantage of taxpayer dollars.

None of the funding will come from taxpayers, but from the money the state collects when it wins antitrust awards and settlements.

It’s not enough to be reactive, we have to sit there and look forward and anticipate what challenges may come, and we need to be ready for them because elections matter.

The courts are holding this administration accountable to the truth and the rule of law.

From the beginning, this case has been about making sure that facts, not political whims, guide how the law is applied. Today’s decision protects that principle.

Today’s ruling, if allowed to stand, would give the president unilateral power to put Oregon soldiers on our streets with almost no justification. We are on a dangerous path in America.
