You guys tackled that professionally and cleaned up a real mess for this country that had not happened on your watch for sure.
I would like sort of a review of that because I do think some of our poorest tribes are sitting on resources that, if they can develop them, are going to make an enormous difference in the lives of their citizens.
It would be very helpful if any of you would give us specific proposals about language that could go in the bill that would be helpful.
I think this committee can be awfully proud of that, particularly you, Mr. Chairman, and you, Mr. Moran, because you guys laid the groundwork and built the bipartisan coalition for that to happen.
If tribes could help support, you know, keeping those healthcare professionals in our community, that would be, you know, a tremendous service.
We have a trust responsibility that our government has assumed over many years.
This is a case, Chairman, where we are being penny wise and pound foolish because we get tribes to invest and then do not follow through and they are not going to invest again.
I would love to get a copy of that. I was able to wave it around a Budget Committee meeting to some effect recently, so it is a great piece of ammunition to have.
In closing, I'd like to say that I believe we've had a good debate on the rule. I believe the importance and timeliness of this legislation couldn't be more self-evident. This bill has been carefully crafted and worked in a way to ensure…
For the purpose of debate only, I yield the customary 30 minutes to the gentlewoman from New York (Ms. Slaughter), pending which I yield myself such time as I may consume. During the consideration of this resolution, all time yielded is…
On Monday, the Rules Committee met and reported a rule for consideration of H.R. 152, the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2013. The rule is a structured rule that allows the House to work its will and decide the appropriate amount of…
I would like to yield 3 minutes to the distinguished gentleman from Florida, the former chairman of the Transportation Committee, Mr. Mica.
First let me yield myself 30 seconds. This is legislation, obviously, that I support, but I want my friend to be aware, the House did not sit on this for 90 days. {time} 1310 The administration of the States concerned took over a month…
By direction of the Committee on Rules, I call up House Resolution 23 and ask for its immediate consideration. The Clerk read the resolution, as follows: H. Res. 23 Resolved, That at any time after the adoption of this resolution the…
I thank the gentleman for yielding. I had a long oration I was going to make, but I want to be quite honest. My good friend Chairman Smith and my good friend Ranking Member Lofgren have actually covered the case as well or better than I…
During rollcall votes No. 624, on the motion to instruct conferees regarding H.R. 4310, No. 625, on the motion to permit closed conference meetings for H.R. 4310, and No. 626, on the motion to suspend the rules and pass H.R. 4053, I was…
In my view, we all agree that we are not going to raise taxes on people that make less than $250,000. We should just take them out of this discussion right now and continue to fight against any rate increases, continue to try to work…
I don't believe in raising tax rates on anybody. I think it's bad for the economy, bad for job creation, ultimately, by slowing down growth cuts revenue, and I think the president needs to come to the table with real spending restraint and…
In my view, we all agree that we're not going to raise taxes on people that make less than $250,000. We should just take them out of this discussion right now, continue to fight against any rate increases, continue to try to work honestly…
I think we should do that. Then I think we continue to fight for the rest.
