“I think 4 hours is too long. I think if we have an interest in passing this bill, we need to move forward on several amendments and we need to move forward expeditiously. Four hours on one amendment does not seem appropriate if that is our goal and objective to finish. If people want to string it out, I do not doubt we could spend all day on an amendment and probably spend all day on several amendments, but that does not finish the bill and does not get the work done. We happen to have five appropriations bills that we need to finish just through the Senate. Again, this Senator is not going to object to the request. But I think all Senators are going to have to realize, if they have an amendment on the list and they really desire to bring it up--and I know there are some amendments on there that people do not intend to offer, and I hope that is the case--we need to shorten our sights, make speeches maybe later in the evening or something, but move forward expeditiously on these amendments, vote on the amendments and dispose of them.”
