We have two sovereigns here in the United States, and we enforce the Federal law all over the country.

Every member of this committee, regardless of your political views or your feelings about the Trump Administration, should condemn violence against Federal officers and the destruction of Federal property.

The demonization of the police is not only unfair and inconsistent with principles that all people should be treated as individuals, but gravely injurious to the inner-city communities.

If local elected officials--mayors, city councils, and governors--did their jobs and kept the peace, would it even be necessary for Federal law enforcement personnel to be there in the first place?

The threat to Black lives posed by crime on the streets is massively greater than any threat posed by police misconduct.

I cannot tell you the amount of work and how committed he was to this cause.

The word ``hero'' is used a little too often these days. But make no mistake, John Lewis personified the word. He was, without question, a true American hero. The fearlessness he demonstrated throughout the civil rights movement, but…

I think that is something we should consider.

Given the overwhelming response to this emergency, is the SBA prepared to respond to other disasters such as floods and hurricanes and fires?

Take, for example, the over $300,000 taxpayer-backed loans that were received by the Ohio Democratic Party in May.

More needs to be done, and we have proven that when we work together across the aisle, we can move mountains.

We must examine and learn from the past and prepare for the future.

Does the loan forgiveness process need to be simplified any more?

It was frustrating... the time it took to get the guidance out.

We must be proactive and effective in our attempts to not only sustain but recover and expand the influence of America's small businesses and Main Streets all over the country.

I think the witnesses did a great job, all of them and--learned a lot, and hopefully on a bipartisan basis, we will put some of this into action.

We must work together and listen to those like our witnesses here today who know and appreciate that critical segment of our economy.

There ought to be no question in anybody's mind that Russia and Putin, in particular, are no friend of the United States.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 made its way to our shores. As a result, a huge number of America's small businesses, coast to coast, were forced to close their doors and turn off their lights.

I do think it is longer than that.

There was still, I think, a considerable need, demand, for non-ag small businesses who needed these EIDL loans.

We definitely would want to work with you on that, and I think both sides.
