Does the loan forgiveness process need to be simplified any more?

Given the overwhelming response to this emergency, is the SBA prepared to respond to other disasters such as floods and hurricanes and fires?

More needs to be done, and we have proven that when we work together across the aisle, we can move mountains.

We must examine and learn from the past and prepare for the future.

Take, for example, the over $300,000 taxpayer-backed loans that were received by the Ohio Democratic Party in May.

I think the witnesses did a great job, all of them and--learned a lot, and hopefully on a bipartisan basis, we will put some of this into action.

We must work together and listen to those like our witnesses here today who know and appreciate that critical segment of our economy.

We must be proactive and effective in our attempts to not only sustain but recover and expand the influence of America's small businesses and Main Streets all over the country.

There ought to be no question in anybody's mind that Russia and Putin, in particular, are no friend of the United States.

There was still, I think, a considerable need, demand, for non-ag small businesses who needed these EIDL loans.

I do think it is longer than that.

The EIDL loan program was not open to agriculture or farming originally, and then we passed legislation to open it up to the ag community.

Injecting some of the private sector and competition into the government... which tends not to be... a little less efficient.

We definitely would want to work with you on that, and I think both sides.

I have heard from many small businesses and numerous Members of Congress about the lack of communication coming from the SBA, with regard to the EIDL Program specifically.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 made its way to our shores. As a result, a huge number of America's small businesses, coast to coast, were forced to close their doors and turn off their lights.

At the beginning of the year, the Nation's economy and the country's small businesses were reaching new heights.

Thank you, Madam Chairman. And thank you for holding this meeting on the Small Business Administration's Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program, popularly known as the EIDL Program.

We really didn't have much, if any, input.

The key here is, we have to outsource all these things, so streamlining it for these small businesses would be great...

I must, once again, register my concern on behalf of our side of the aisle about the continuing conducting of Committee meetings by virtual format.

Congress ought to be together. We represent the American people in dealing with these various challenges that our Nation has before us and we ought to be here.

The prospect of defunding or dismantling our police forces is one of the most unwise, irresponsible proposals made by American politicians.

We owe it to our children and our grandchildren, to the future of this Nation, to dedicate ourselves to the principle that all men and all women are created equal.
