“This important bipartisan amendment, offered by Senators Voinovich, Lieberman, and Whitehouse, would provide $2 million in paid-for funding for the Underground Railroad Educational and Cultural Program. It is administered by the Department of Education to research, display, interpret, and collect artifacts relating to the history of the Underground Railroad. Senators Alexander, Cochran, Isakson, Levin, and I offered a similar reauthorization bill that this amendment is taken from. I ask for the support of my colleagues for the amendment.”
