We did have a productive conversation this evening. We do have some honest differences, but I do think we've made some progress. But I want to reiterate there's no agreement on a number and there's no agreement on the policy but there's an intent on both sides to continue to work together to try to resolve this. No one wants the government to shut down.
Speaker John Boehner discusses the ongoing budget negotiations, acknowledging progress while noting that no agreement has been reached yet.

This bill is the greatest threat to freedom that I have seen in the 19 years I have been here in Washington.
For a bill that was supposed to be about jobs, jobs, jobs, has turned into a bill that`s all about spending, spending, and spending.
Let me just be clear here. A debt limit increase without any reforms to lower our deficit just isn`t going to cut it.
