The people of this village have a right, they have a right to get their lives back.
It's time to collectively learn from this and move forward with bipartisan support and the support of Norfolk Southern.
The most outrageous and the most ridiculous thing that I have heard from industry groups and other activists in response to this bill is that it is somehow a kind of Bolshevism to require the railways to engage in proper safety standards.
I will point out that 9 years ago we made a recommendation from the NTSB that they should provide proper notification to first responders.
This should not have happened in America. This cannot happen again in America.
Both Europe and Japan move more trains over more miles of track than the United States. They have many fewer derailments.
We can--and we must--have strong businesses. But that doesn't mean businesses should be allowed to reject common sense safety regulations.
But I will say that as the father of a 5-year-old, a 3-year-old, and a 1-year-old, the 5- and the 3-year-old are both boys, that outside of firefighters, bus drivers are maybe the coolest profession in the world to my two kids.
I would like just an honest explanation and conversation here about what the vaccine mandates did to our pilot workforce?
