“11 Branch Davidians who were charged with murder were acquitted. The Justice Department suffered a major defeat. The Government said they had proof that the Davidians were armed and waiting to ambush and kill their agents. The fact is, Mr. Speaker, the Government presented no such evidence at trial. The Government also said they had a videotape that would prove conclusively that the Davidians fired first. The fact is the Government never presented any videotape at trial. What really happened at Waco? Four brave officers dead, 80 citizens dead, including 18 children exterminated. The fact is we had big people, Government people in high places, that orchestrated theater for the 6 o'clock news, and now they have got to answer for the ghosts at Waco. My colleagues, there is a problem here. Many Americans fear that their Government is coming at us, and what they fear even worse, I say to my colleagues, is that Congress keeps looking the other way. It is time to investigate Waco, and let us find out what really happened.”
