Zohran Mamdani is a member of the New York State Assembly, representing the 36th district. Elected as a Democrat, he is known for his progressive policies and advocacy for social justice. Mamdani has focused on issues such as housing equity, healthcare access, and environmental justice during his time in office. He has been an outspoken advocate for the rights of marginalized communities in New York.
It's ironic to hear the mayor describe himself as an independent when his record has shown him anything but that.
We are here in a moment that demands all of us because the richest man in the world has purchased the president of the United States.
Right now, what we’re seeing is a paucity of imagination and ambition to fight for working people before embracing what we are being told is the only option in front of us.
Do you believe in the First Amendment? What are the charges that you're holding Mahmoud Khalil on? And how many more New Yorkers will you detain?
It's one that's also being done with the support through the silence of a number of other candidates for mayor, namely disgraced former governor Andrew Cuomo, who took seventy two hours to say even a word.
This is an attack on the First Amendment. It's an attack on one of the most core things about being an American, which is the right to engage in political speech without fear that your government is going to lock you up.
It's critical for us to be fighting this dismantling of the first amendment.
We are here to break the mold of what electoral politics in this city can be.
