The Republican budget could not be more wrong for America.

It puts Americans back at the mercy of the health insurance companies, and it leads to 33 million more uninsured Americans.

The President's budget calls for a $487 billion reduction in base defense spending over the next decade.

Congress has a solemn obligation to ensure our troops fighting overseas have the resources that they need to successfully complete their missions.

We want to make sure that we honor them with the right kind of priorities, and with the right kind of defense policy.

The failure by the administration to deal honestly with the drivers of debt, specifically when it comes to government spending on health care, is a failure that imperils our economic security and now our national security.

We can follow the path set by President Obama's most recent budget request.

Instead of engaging in an honest debate about the path forward to strengthen these programs, too many have offered little more than false political attacks and trillions of dollars in empty promises.

Yeah, so CBO's analysis, because of the reforms we have put in the plans, there would not be any added burden to those remaining seniors.

For too long, politicians in Washington have not been honest with the American people--seniors in particular--about Medicare and Social Security.

We can follow the path set by the President's health-care law and the additional Medicare cuts called for in his most recent budget request.

It improves and saves Social Security.

the plan that I personally authored, it was not in a budget, increases the minimum benefit to make sure that no senior citizen falls beneath the poverty line.

And why has he decided to base his re-election strategy on dividing Americans for political gain?

To think of this man, who they put the candles up and they burn the incense and have the big picture of Ronald Reagan, to think of him running in a Republican primary today, he would be behind Ron Paul--he would probably be out of the race…

There ought to be a bipartisan element of compromise here.

Why has he once again given us broken promises instead of leadership--and excuses instead of accountability?

A lot of folks think that if we lower tax rates, then the rich are just going to rip everybody off, that they are going to get away with murder.

We can get better growth and the wealthier actually will pay a higher proportion of the burden.

If plan beats no plan, then why has the President once again decided to duck from the drivers of our debt?

your rhetoric never matches your actions.

But then we will have a debate about who should bear that burden. And our judgment is the top 2 percent of Americans should bear that burden through a higher effective tax rate.

You could not get one Republican on the other side to raise their hand and say, yes, I would be for some tax increase on the wealthiest 2 percent, 1 percent, .5 of the top 1 percent.

This, Mr. Secretary, is no plan. It is no plan to restrain spending. It is no plan to grow the economy.

I voted for that amendment that was in the committee. It was me and Heath Shuler were the only two.
