This is the moment for the people who have hit the bend in the road. Tonight, we are going to make the turn and take our city in a new direction.
The call for proper police reform has nothing to do with our real admiration for the men and women who put on that blue uniform and put themselves in harm's way all the time.
And we don't have to mix up the justice we deserve with the safety we need.
Yes, I do. When you look at the 13 lives that were lost here, the devastation of not only personal injury, but property damage, it is really going to highlight how our inner cities must start looking at how we deal with climate change.
Oh no, we're not, and we have to be honest with ourselves and I say this over and over again. Listen, we screwed up our planet. Let's be honest about that. And we have to be prepared for the future.
It`s time to respond to the underlying causes of violence in our city. We need to put in place real plans in New York City to go after the gun violence.
When you communicate with people who are closest to the problem, they know when they hear someone that's closest to the solutions.
People want safe streets, they want our children educated, they want a real issue around housing.
My son won't grow up in a city that I grew up in, filled with crime, graffiti and violence. That is unacceptable.
