I am pleased to yield 2 minutes to the gentleman from Colorado (Mr. Perlmutter).

I am particularly concerned about the disproportionate effect sequestration will have on our veterans.

In recent months, leaders in Congress on both sides of the aisle have discussed the consequences of sequestration.

The House Republican budget resolution is a blueprint for stalled growth, joblessness, and abandonment of American families. Since 2010, Congress has cut services and investments critical to American families by $1.5 trillion…

Congress must do its work, and we on the Appropriations Committee are committed to writing thoughtful spending bills in regular order.

Operating the government under continuing resolutions and sequestration is not the right way to do it

I cannot in good conscience tell my constituents that their country does not value their bond, their commitment, or their family.

Are you concerned that the sequester could ultimately infringe on a party's right to a speedy trial or other elements of due process?

If the sequester were to continue, the Federal judiciary would see a reduction, as you know, of approximately $350 million.

I know many possible people from Puerto Rico who could perhaps be elected.

What is at stake here is the efficiency of the courts.

If the Congress thinks that because of some automatic cuts this has to be cut back, you are doing a few things.

Number one, Congressman Serrano, one-seventh of that budget is for Defender Services, one-seventh of the Federal Judiciary budget is for the country.

When the budget of $7 billion for the courts comes before you, I believe next week, it is important to bear a few things in mind.

Employee furloughs at the FAA necessitated by the failure of Congress to replace ill-advised across-the-board cuts are causing inconvenience and economic losses.
