This has never been a Democrat or Republican issue. We have all worked together.

My top priority in this subcommittee is to increase investments in biomedical research.

I do hope that we can be constructive, not only in these hearings but in other discussions.

There will be increased demands for services for children and young adults.

Taxpayers need clarity in the tax code and responsiveness from the IRS.

We are indeed fortunate to have a person with your wisdom and your talent in public service today.

I am concerned that the Republican majority's efforts to continually underfund the IRS makes it easier for tax cheats to go undetected.

I frankly would like to follow-up on that and get a response. It's just astonishing to me.

I just have to bring attention, I think, as the only woman on this panel. It is shocking to me, I cannot understand it.

We must do a better job of focusing on rehabilitation so that those who have committed crimes can receive the punishment but also treatment and resources to have productive and law abiding lives.

The security of our nation depends on adequate funding to these agencies.
