Now is not the time to be putting a huge number of farmers at risk.

How can this possibly be fair? A farm making $500,000 is not keeping that money.

I commend President Barack Obama for recognizing the urgent need to restore the Great Lakes and the tremendous economic benefit healthy Lakes will bring to communities, businesses and industries.

I appreciate that President Obama has put $475 million in this budget, recognizing the great need to restore the Great Lakes.

We must protect the Great Lakes in order to ensure that we and future generations continue to reap its many benefits.

Restoring the Lakes will also put people to work immediately.

The President's emphasis on national service epitomizes our core national values and the American spirit.

I am very pleased to see that President Obama is determined to simplify the financial aid process and has supported a 5,500 Pell Grant maximum award.

I applaud President Obama's commitment to the veterans of the United States as demonstrated by his increasing the Department of Veterans Affairs fiscal year 2010 budget for health care and compensation.

Art more than pays its way, we are not giving gifts to anybody.

Our challenge today is to make the case for increased arts funding, which will in turn fund programs that will reach more communities, more students and more budding artists.
