Joseph Crowley is a former Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New York's 14th congressional district from 2013 until 2019. Prior to that, he served New York's 7th congressional district from 1999 to 2013. Crowley was known for his work on issues such as healthcare, education, and economic development. He held various leadership positions within the Democratic Party, including serving as the chair of the Democratic Caucus in the House. In 2018, he was defeated in a primary election by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, which marked a significant shift in the political landscape of the district.

by number of sources- I rise in strong support of House Resolution 1215, a measure to honor Bangladesh's return to democracy. Just 18 months ago, this House passed a resolution urging a return to democracy in Bangladesh. At the time, we were concerned that Bangladesh was creeping toward totalitarianism and authoritarianism, especially after the ruling caretaker government postponed national elections. The 160 million people of Bangladesh faced an uncertain future. Instead of succumbing to the temptations of permanent power, the caretaker government ultimately scheduled nationwide elections. They invited international election monitors into the country and created an independent anticorruption commission. The elections were deemed credible by numerous international observers, and, most importantly, by the people of Bangladesh. Today, the day before Bangladesh celebrates their Independence Day, it is an opportunity for this House to honor the Bangladesh people and their democracy.2 sources2010govinfo.gov
- Mr. Speaker, I rise this evening to tell the human side of this story, to tell the story of Lieutenant Martin Fullam from my district. Five weeks or so ago I got on a train in New Jersey to come down to work and Martin was there with his wife. They were coming down because there was going to be a meeting and a hearing over on the Senate side, and they wanted to be there. You see, Martin was a 30-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department, and right after 9/11 he went and he work on the pile; and like so many others, he became sick, one of the first to be diagnosed with World Trade Center disease. He had to have a lung replaced or otherwise he would have died. And when I asked him what does he think about, as he kind of fought for his breath sitting in that train station, he said the only thing I think about is making sure that my medical bills are paid so my family doesn't have to worry about it. - I rise today in firm support of the transportation appropriations bill for fiscal year 2002. I would like to commend Chairman Rogers and Mr. Sabo for crafting a bill that addresses the unique transportation needs in this country. Though this bill takes into account the demands and constraints of the current transportation network throughout the country, I would like to make special mention of certain aspects of this bill that have a tremendous impact on my constituents in the 7th Congressional district of New York. I want to thank Mrs. Lowey, Mr. Serrano, Mr. Hinchey, and Mr. Sweeney for their assistance in securing the inclusion of $250,000 for the Long Island City Links Project. The LIC Links research funded in this bill will lead to a comprehensive network of pedestrian, bicycle and transit connections between Long Island City residential and business areas and new parks, retail stores, and cultural institutions. These innovative improvements will help reduce automobile traffic and improve our neighborhood air quality.
