I must oppose the amendment.

I strongly support this measure that was put forward by my good friend Representative Case.

Nigerians continue to suffer under the threat of violence for how they practice their faith.

I want to thank Representative Tenney for her work on this resolution to highlight the wrongful detention of my fellow New Yorker, Ryan Corbett, who the Taliban detained in the summer of 2022.

The United States is an integral part of the Pacific Island region, and we have a responsibility to remain engaged.

While I thank Representative Smith for his years of work on advancing religious freedom, unfortunately I must oppose the amendment and resolution before us today.

It is important to note that violence against communities based on religious belief unfortunately affects people of many faiths in Nigeria.

This amendment is counterproductive. The House has voted in a bipartisan manner to support general licenses to Iran to allow open internet access to the protesters against the regime of Iran. That could violate this vaguely drafted…

Our partners and allies are watching. The Ukrainians who have showed us all that freedom and democracy is worth protecting will continue to fight, but are watching.

This timely bill seeks to close that spigot as well. Importantly it requires the Administration to impose sanctions on any foreign person or institution supporting the concealing military pathway from North Korea to Russia's war in Ukraine.

In response the United States has led through its revitalized alliances and partnerships to impose severe costs on Russia and strengthen those relationships with friends of freedom and democracy.

I support this bipartisan bill and ANS and thank Representative Connolly for his leadership on this issue and his continued work to support the people of Ukraine against Russia's brutal war.

Given the rampant repression we have seen under the national security law it makes sense to revisit whether Hong Kong officials should continue to retain such privileges.

Under these circumstances it is very hard to see Hong Kong as autonomous in any credible way.

The whole world has watched as Beijing undid the one country, two systems framework that guaranteed autonomy to Hong Kong.
