Our partners and allies are watching. The Ukrainians who have showed us all that freedom and democracy is worth protecting will continue to fight, but are watching.

In response the United States has led through its revitalized alliances and partnerships to impose severe costs on Russia and strengthen those relationships with friends of freedom and democracy.

Given the rampant repression we have seen under the national security law it makes sense to revisit whether Hong Kong officials should continue to retain such privileges.

The whole world has watched as Beijing undid the one country, two systems framework that guaranteed autonomy to Hong Kong.

Under these circumstances it is very hard to see Hong Kong as autonomous in any credible way.
