I think I share the President's concern, and also your concern for the residents of New Mexico.
If the funds were unlimited, what would the course of action be to remedy the problem?
I do think states should have greater control over these resources, because we are in the best position to manage and understand their impacts.
We are choked under the regulatory burden, and we are going to quit lending to poor people.
What business is it of the government if I want to borrow $100 to get me through to the next payday?
The small communities, the poor people, the people who are at the bottom end of the economic spectrum will have no other choices.
I suspect that's the reason that we've never moved any further towards letting veterans see local providers, because of that internal belief that the system doesn't need to change and will never need to change.
The VA has a lot of people who care deeply about the veterans. And they serve well and they do their job well. But the abuses and the problems have dominated.
I've got a young soldier here that came today. He just got notified by text message that they were going to cut that department out or they were going to cut funding to it.
Many of my vets go to the hospital and find out they're going to have to pay for it.
But what we did do was give the Secretary the ability to fire individuals who aren't doing their job or who find that they forced other people to manipulate the numbers.
Thank you very much for making sure this pilot project is ongoing, because it is buzzing around the state. People have heard about it, there's a sense of excitement, there's a sense of relief.
One thing is you cannot legislate morality, you cannot legislate common sense, you cannot legislate people doing the right thing.
So many people did not want their names used as I talked about their items. Are you all addressing the fact that we can't cure the problems when people can't talk about it inside the system?
I appreciate your holding this hearing today on Federal agencies which intimidate and bully private citizens.
This is not some theoretical argument. It is about our culture in the West and our livelihood.
Balance is no longer the order of the day, but instead, agencies look to implement a narrow special interest-led agenda.
