I very much look forward to working with this Committee and my colleagues to get the Violence Against Women Act passed in the Senate.

this is a crisis not only in New Mexico's Indigenous communities but across the United States and across the world.

Our Tribes and Pueblos are working to address the impacts of climate change, to maintain and revitalize our traditional agricultural practices, to restore and to repatriate sacred lands and traditional lands.

one of the most important recommendations that came out of that work was about data and cross-jurisdictional sharing of data.

I join you, the Navajo and the Pueblo leaders, in striving to find the important balance.

What are the changes you think could make it easier for organizations and communities to apply and manage those grants?

the crisis of human trafficking and particularly of missing and murdered Indigenous relatives and women is one of my top priorities.

I know how hard it is to access that Federal funding.

I led the inclusion of additional funding in the House-passed appropriations bill for cultural studies.

The history of New Mexico and our rural communities predate the founding of our great Nation. Our communities carry rich traditions and ways of life, from our tribal communities, to our land grants, to our farmers and ranchers and small…

As we consider the 2022 Water Resources Development Act, many of you know, our West and our communities across the Southwest are gripped by the worst drought that we have seen in 1,200 years.

I request that the committee authorize an additional $5 million for the Tribal Partnership Program.

We also ask that the committee consider including funding for our acequia resilience and Tribal acequia program.

I urge that the committee consider authorizing an additional $200 million to the Bureau of Reclamation.

Our dairies in particular, and the dairy industry, as one of our leading agricultural industries, has been just devastated. Thousands of gallons of milk have been dumped, and people's livelihoods have been destroyed by this contamination.

It's just so urgent that expedite this research and development, and then expedite the cleanup of these communities.

Given the impacts of PFAS in our communities, and communities across the country, and particularly in New Mexico, it's vital that we advance coordination and advanced science and research on the impacts, cleanup, and alternatives to PFAS…

PFAS has also been detected in water bodies throughout our State, and we are just beginning to scratch the surface in understanding the full picture of this contamination, the fate and transport of the contaminants within our communities…

New Mexico stands ready to manufacture, to assemble, and to test those semiconductors.

One of the things that we've been working on in this Committee... is to create a nonprofit foundation that will help to align the R&D that happens at our National Labs with the private sector.

New Mexico is particularly well poised to help lead the charge here, and help to ensure American leadership in microelectronics.

In my community, and across New Mexico, we are so privileged to have the ability to step into our backyards, and look up at the night sky...
