We should not be playing politics with people's lives. This is serious. People's lives are in the balance.

The system is terribly broken, and that is why we need bipartisan reform.

As a woman in STEM, I want to just note that it's being led by an amazing group of women, including Charlie Blackwell-Thompson, who is the first woman ever in American history to oversee a NASA countdown and launch.

After three decades of bipartisan work, dedicated collaboration by our extraordinary scientists and engineers at NASA, our space industries, and of course scientists across the world, this amazing telescope launched last December.

What can Congress do to hear from Tribal Nations in order to find a reasonable consensus in Indian Country to respond to Castro-Huerta?

the biggest problem I see with Castro-Huerta is that the Court erroneously concluded that state governments somehow have a greater interest in protecting Native victims than their own Tribal Nations.

Nothing in Castro-Huerta invites the Department of Justice to distance itself from its treaty trust duty and responsibility to safeguard the lives of our women and children.

We want Congress to act quickly.

Congress has taken the correct first step through this Subcommittee's Oversight Hearing to hear from Tribal Nations about the impacts of the Castro-Huerta decision.

We are hearing the need to get more resources to support tribal courts, to beef up DOJ, and BIA, and law enforcement.

I believe that this decision by the majority of our Supreme Court is a direct affront to tribal sovereignty and to Tribal Nationhood.

I wish I could say that state and local governments have prioritized the protection of Native women and children, but they have not.

It is hard to believe that in the year 2022, I rise to defend the right to access contraception. That is right, contraception. Why? Because we have a renegade Supreme Court that has overturned a half century of settled law, stripping away…

We know that we have to take action as quickly as possible.

Obviously, this is the most important and pressing question of the day is how do we meet our goal of reducing our carbon emissions by 2035, 2040 so that we don't cross this catastrophic tipping point?

Part of being able to take effective action on climate change requires that we know that the methods and the tactics that we're using to tackle emissions and sinks is actually effective.

Climate change is already here, it's already on the ground, it's already impacting our communities.

Climate action cannot wait, and we must take decisive action now to address both the causes of climate change and its impacts.

In New Mexico we have a saying that 'agua es vida,' water is life because it is the vital resource in the arid Southwest upon which everything else depends.

I think it is crucial that we take these examples and really incorporate them into the voting rights laws...

We are seeing suppression of Native votes across the country.

I am proud to be from a State that understands that voting rights are the foundation of our democracy and must be protected.

Considering these and other attacks on our core democratic institutions, it is more important than ever that we act at the Federal level to protect voting rights.
