Do you feel like you have sufficient law enforcement resources at this point or is that an area that needs more attention added from the appropriators in particular?

I want to reiterate Senator Tester's comments about Tracy Stone-Manning and the importance of getting leadership in place at BLM.

I think law enforcement at Interior is something that we need to focus more on in this subcommittee certainly at Fish and Wildlife and with respect to cultural items but also just in general.

I have quit using the word drought. I now call it aridification because we are in such a permanent change of precipitation in the State of New Mexico.

I have seen border wall built in some of the most insane and unrealistic areas where, frankly, it is the wrong solution.

Credit where credit is due, this is really a work that, Senator Domenici and Senator Bingaman started a very effective program

I just think this rule was horribly written, and I would urge you to revisit it as soon as possible.

If you need additional authorities, please ask for them, because I think this is critical.

I want to start with the statement and just say how deeply unsatisfied I am with the current WOTUS rule.

I think your concept of marrying up the need for firefighters throughout much of the year now, if not the entire year, with restoration as well, so that we can get the forests back in a condition where prescribed fire can actually be used…

The backlog is not delays because of environmental permits, NEPA processing, or lawsuits, just because we have not adequately funded these projects and because of staff constraints.

I think this is a place that warrants additional focus, and particularly the idea of making sure that families can keep their base properties as well as part of the process of resolving some of these conflicts.

We all recognize how many acres of forest need to be treated right now, both with hazardous fuels and more broadly towards a goal of restoration.

I think it's something to be proud of that our services are helping to, you know, make that possible.

I did not know the role of DOE in sort of proving out those technologies.

We're going to wrap here in just a few minutes, but I do want to follow up on the question that Senator Boozman raised about sort of life cycle costs versus upfront costs and the relationship of that to building codes.

DOD's Building Code, the Unified Facilities Criteria or UFC needs to be updated regularly to ensure that we're not building facilities vulnerable to severe weather events.

I think it's an important question to ask.

I think you referred to it as green engineering, but it's often natural systems as infrastructure.

I think the real integrating factor is innovative and powered and creative leadership at the garrison level.
