“For the person who owns the building we have said, if you have a pension plan and you have what you consider to be surplus income in the plan, you can keep it and spend it on yourself. We have said that when you sell the building, we will give you a tax break or a tax reduction on your profit when you sell the building, and if you choose to move out of the country, renounce your citizenship, and no longer be an American for the purposes of evading taxes, we will let you do it. That is the policy we are following here. On the other hand, when the woman who cleans the building at night tries to get a 90-cent increase per hour in her wages, that is a great risk to the American economy and a great diversion of public policy that makes no sense. The people who sweep our floors, cook our meals, and work in the child care centers in this country need a raise. They have earned it, they deserve it. Mr. Speaker, I support the increase in the minimum wage.”
