“What the Democrats are saying is that if we look at this continuing resolution, education, the amount of money that goes to our schools is cut by 13 percent. If we look at the amount of money that goes to environmental protection, it is cut by 22 percent. The Democrats are saying that there is insufficient funding, there are too many cuts here in educational programs, back to our schools, environmental programs. The President was in New Jersey last week. He talked about the Superfund program and how many sites will not be cleaned up, hazardous waste sites, because of these cuts constantly in these continuing resolutions, and it is irresponsible to act this way. We are now talking about a 1-week CR. How can we continue to operate a government on a 1-week basis? What does that mean to the Federal Government? It means that a tremendous amount of time has to be wasted in just gearing up or gearing down because agencies do not know how much money is going to be available. It is about time that we said enough is enough. Vote 'no.'”
