I rise in support of S. 1754, the Health Professions Education Act. This legislation provides badly needed resources to a range of health professional educators and I am very pleased that the concerns voiced by every Democrat on the Commerce Committee's Health and Environment Subcommittee were addressed. The Health Professions Education Partnerships Act has three main objectives. The first is to assure that health professions are generating primary care providers. The second is to ensure there is diversity in the health professions workforce. And the third is to provide adequate services to medically under-served areas. All of these are extremely important objectives for very obvious reasons, and I would urge all of my colleagues to support this bill so it can be sent to the president as soon as possible for his signature. It is important to patients and health educators all across this country and my home state, including the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, which has facilities in my district.
