“I thank the gentlewoman. I notice that she and our Democratic leader constantly refer to the working middle class, and that is really what this is all about. The Democratic tax cuts would basically target the working middle class. That is the way it should be. We have mentioned, the gentlewoman has mentioned over and over again, this is a balanced budget bill where we have limited resources, because we are trying to balance the budget. Those resources need to go to the working middle class, not to the big corporations, not to the top 1 percent of the people in this country. One of the things that really bothers me, and I just wanted to mention it, and then I will yield to our friend from Texas, is that the strength, if you will, of America, I was always taught, was the fact that we have a large and growing middle class; that we do not have this huge gap, if you will, between the rich and the poor. And I think that we need to encourage the middle class. We need to help people who are working in the middle class.”
