We have had loss of life from floods. We have had tremendous damage to property. We have had whole towns washed away.

If we have bipartisan support on this Committee that we support these projects and want to go forward, how many communities are going to be put at risk when your funding is cut or you don't have sufficient funding?

I mean, this is serious and we need to take care of this. And meanwhile the budget that comes forward is cut. I don't understand how we are going to protect our constituents.

I am definitely concerned about flooding, and I am particularly concerned about the budget cuts that are coming down from the White House.

I mean, that is 18 communities in my state that I would rather protect.

I hope you will use your clout with the Appropriations Committee to get the funding we need.

I have been very involved with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in a task force to combat the heroin epidemic.

I just feel optimism from this hearing, which is a rare feeling in this panel.

this is by far the most informative and effective hearing I have been in in my four and a half years on this Committee.

we also are facing an opioid crisis. A heroin epidemic, whatever word you want to put on it, it is happening across the country.

But Ms. Park, your testimony is that 90 percent of that cannot be recovered.

I have a concern about expectations going forward based on the White House budget presentation.

I think we really need to be focused on reducing those wait times by giving people the times when they can get a ride.

We have a serious disconnect if the White House is assuming that these funds can be recovered.

I just think it is duplicitous for them to pretend that we are going to recoup millions, billions of dollars.

I certainly hope we don't go forward with going after rural hospitals for services that have already been provided.

let's not put them under this improper payment category; let's define it some other way.

I cannot imagine that we--the U.S. Government, through the VA, goes after a homeless woman because of some retroactive change in her benefits that she knew nothing about and takes money out of her paycheck and repossesses her car.
