“I came in 1995 to my first year in the United States Congress, and I am proud to be a foot soldier here in the United States House, and I consider myself a foot soldier. There are a number of us on both sides of the aisle who are foot soldiers, who believe and hope that the majority of the time we are doing what is right for American people. I mention that because recently my friend from Mississippi... kept us here until like 2 or 3 in the morning making motions; and because he believed so strongly in what he was doing, I never was offended. Some Members on both sides of the aisle, I heard grumbling; but quite frankly, I did not because I thought that the gentleman was doing what he was elected to do if he believed what he was doing. I know the gentleman well enough to know that he believed in what he was doing.”
