Mr. Speaker, the legislation we're about to vote on represents one of the most offensive pieces of social engineering legislation in the history of the United States, and the American people recognize this simple truth. Even the ruling Democrats recognize how unpopular this proposal is but have chosen to ignore the overwhelming outcry and convince their wavering colleagues that the government and politicians in Washington, D.C., know better than their constituents. What arrogance. Although this may be shocking to many Americans, this arrogance reflects the approach the ruling Democrats have taken since they regained the majority in 2007. We will be voting on legislation that even the liberal Democrat chairwoman of the Rules Committee said ``Will do almost nothing to reform health care,'' and that ``It's time that we draw the line on this weak bill and ask the Senate to go back to the drawing board. The American people deserve at least that.'' On that, we agree. This legislation contains taxpayer funding for elective abortion, an unprecedented proposal that offends the conscience of American taxpayers. The legislation we're about to vote on increases the cost of insurance, strangles private competition, and ultimately leads to a complete Federal takeover of the health care industry.…
