Mr. Speaker, over the last few weeks, many families have proudly watched their sons and daughters receive their high school diplomas at ceremonies across North Carolina. On Saturday, I cheered as my grandson Kenan walked across that stage and graduated from Watauga High School. These new graduates have been blessed with some wonderful teachers. They have learned a great deal--lessons in math, science, history, and literature--but they have also learned lessons in self-discipline, compassion, patience, and understanding. This learning didn't all take place in the classroom. Much of it was learned at home with their families, out with their friends, on the football field, during summer jobs, and even in brief interactions with unexpected people. The choices ahead of them are many, and the road to success will have its detours, but they can be anything they want to be by meeting every challenge with integrity and determination. The class of 2015, set your goals and find your dreams. Congratulations. ____________________
