Mr. President, before I get started on what I really want to talk about today, which is the real threat facing our Nation, I want to reflect for a few moments on the antics and the theater that are going on in the House of Representatives. The Presiding Officer and I were both Speakers of the House in his great State of Florida and my great State of North Carolina. I don't know about you, but the business of the House is more important than the antics that we see going on there. If it were my Chamber, it would be cleared, and people would be arrested if that is what is necessary to get us back to the task at hand. We have a number of things to work on, including economic security, national security, homeland security. And why people would use the pulpit of the House floor--the House Chamber--to advance their political agenda, to advance their fundraising--go to the political Web sites and see how many of them have sent out an email in the past couple of days and in the past week exploiting a tragic situation in Orlando for their political purposes. I think it is disgusting, and I am disappointed. I think what we need to do is recognize--and I should say before I get started--that there are issues with handguns going into the hands of people who are mentally ill. There is no doubt about it. We should have a discussion to figure out how to fix that.…
