For my constituents in North Carolina, developing new treatments can literally make the difference between life and death.

Now is the time to come together to support the FDA. Our constituents are counting on us, my colleagues, to work together in this space.

Just last year we passed the 21st Century Cures Act that this committee drafted and passed unanimously to help boost the resources of the Food and Drug Administration and encourage the development of new treatments.

However, this administration's executive actions and proposed budget do not seem to understand the importance of FDA's mission to help patients and improve public health.

Congress has come together under the leadership of both Democrats and Republicans to pass this important bipartisan legislation.

It is important that we continue to build on this progress by supporting the FDA's agreement with industry.

If the administration truly wants FDA to protect public health and fulfill its mission, it should not implement a hiring freeze that could prevent the replacement of key personnel.

I am concerned that this executive order could in fact make it more difficult to implement these agreements and respond to the applications.

It is critical therefore that the administration respect these agreements and ensure that the FDA has all of the resources that it needs to review these important treatments.

There is no doubt that NTIA will play a critical role as this administration contemplates its goals related to our nation's telecommunications policy.

My constituents... overwhelmingly support our new Governor in North Carolina who is doing all that he can to expand Medicaid.

This appears to be another hearing to discuss Republican plans to change the healthcare system and reduce people's access to care and to make health care more expensive.
